For those who read this blog regularly - you know that I am a huge fan of the TV show Friday Night Lights. Despite never really gaining a broad fan base - I truly believe that FNL is one of the best TV shows ever produced. And last night, some friends and I gathered to watch the last three episodes of FNL, including the series finale.
The finale didn't disappoint. After five seasons of the Panthers, Lions, Taylors, Riggins, Garritys, and all of the other brilliant characters...Matt, Landry, Tyra, Vince - the show did what it has done all along - painted an intimate portrait of a town and its people. Coach and Tami Taylor remain the most realisitic portrayal of a couple that I have ever seen on TV, and as corny as it sounds, I look up to them as an exemplary relationship. Seriously. One of the most beautifully written, acted and filmed series ever.
Not everything got wrapped up neatly, but enough was resolved that I felt that I could leave my Dillon family without regret. There wasn't a dry eye in the room when the credits rolled. For those of you who haven't ever seen the show - once again I encourage you to get on it. Get the DVDs, and start from the beginning - my bets are that you won't be able to stop watching even if you try. See below for a quick promo for season 5 to get you started.
So thank-you Peter Berg, Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton and the whole team behind Friday Night Lights for having the creativity and skill to bring such a unique show to small screen - and for maintaining its integrity throughout five excellent seasons. Quality show, quality actors and an incredible story. Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose. Dillon forever!
