I could go on at length about how wonderful the Olympics were...there are hundreds of posts and opinions about how they inspired us, how the Olympics evoked a sea of Canadian Maple Leafs unlike anything I've ever seen before. I could tell you that I can't remember the last time I have felt the kind of national pride that I felt when I watched Sidney Crosby flick that winning goal into the net of Ryan Miller. Or when Jaysee Jay hit the finish line on the snowboard, or when Charles Hamelin won his gold after such disappointment in the earlier rounds.
Or the jaw dropping shock I felt when I watched Virtue and Moir finish their ice dance - seriously, where did they come from? Astonishing. Or watching Kevin Martin and his team walk through curling dominance over the whole tournament. I could go on and on about how we were united as a country for 10 days - and how it's like nothing I've ever really seen before and something that I won't likely see again in the near future. Instead of me telling you about it - I'll leave you with this video from Stephen Brunt, which sums it up perfectly.
So thank you VANOC for a great, if imperfect games. It was a fantastic ride - and now, as I recover from too many pints in the pub, and going to bed late after Olympic events - I won't soon forget how fun and exciting everything was. Oh Canada - I love you.
